Call for Abstracts Starting January 7, 2008
Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE)
This event is intended
to provide a unique opportunity for students to present academic research, visual
art, and other forms of creative expression as undergraduates, and to generate
a common forum for university wide communication among faculty and students. A
certificate of presentation will be given to the presenters.
SOURCE will take place Friday April 11 2008. All students are required
to submit an abstract summarizing their presentation. Abstracts for oral presentations are due Friday, February 15 (5:00pm) and abstracts for poster presentations are due by February 29 (5:00pm). Students will be informed of the status of their applications within approximately one week after the submission deadline. To submit your abstract, please
fill out the call for abstracts submission form (Login with SEU username and
password required).
Format of Abstracts:
An abstract consists
of 1-3 paragraphs containing less than 250 words. The function of the abstract
is to allow readers to decide if the topic of the talk, poster, or visual presentation
is of interest to them. Keep these brief yet informational. Do not assume that
everyone who reads the abstract is well informed on the subject. Write your abstract
for as broad a readership as possible, considering the length constraints you must
observe.
The abstract is the
one document that you write which will be made available to the world via the SOURCE
program booklet and the web. Consequently, you should pay special attention to
the preparation of this document. It is this document that will attract people
to hear your talk/presentation. Abstracts will be posted at this web site shortly
after Easter. An example abstract is provided as a model
for formatting and layout. Visit Tips for an Effective Presentation or Tips
for an Effective Poster Presentation for more helpful information.
