The Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression
S.O.U.R.C.E.

What is the Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) and how can I be involved?

St Edward's University undergraduate students are invited to present original research or artistic works at this annual symposium through presentations or through poster sessions. Presentation of students' scholarship and creative expression may take the form of, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Presentation of a formal paper. The student reads aloud to participants of SOURCE a paper that involves original research or a literary composition.
  • Extemporaneous presentation of a topic. The student gives an engaging presentation of a topic that s/he carefully prepares but delivers without a text. The student may use PowerPoint or slides to provide images, graphs or charts relevant to the topic or to provide an outline of the presentation, but the student does not simply read the outline or text of the slides aloud to the audience.
  • Presentation of a creative endeavor. The student shares with SOURCE participants his/her artistic compositions. For example, the student performs a play, reads original poetry, or exhibits original artworks.
  • Poster sessions. The student can present original research and creative endeavors on a poster board (provided0 that s/he designs and then discusses with those who attend the poster session.

Whatever the student should undertake for SOURCE, the presentation, composition, artistic endeavor or poster board should be polished for the Symposium and shared in a manner that befits a professional environment.
