Why I Teach
To be human is to be a storyteller. I teach in the hopes of giving students the tools to find and explore their own stories.
I strive to provide students opportunities to analyze, practice and revise elements of craft in an environment where they are free to take risks. I challenge them to read and write outside their comfort zones so that they might grow as writers and as human beings. I invite students to practice empathy through imagining the lives of others and, by doing so, to also develop their own point-of-view, which is to say their voice.
