Why I Teach

My goal in teaching is to transform students into sensitive users of language. Because language is how we come to understand others and our world, I want to increase my students’ awareness of how it impacts their interactions in everything they do.

Teaching allows me to meet students where they are, and to invite them to join me in experiences that call for thinking in new ways. It is fun to see students grow into more sophisticated thinkers and to watch them become confident writers in many genres.

I teach because I have always loved learning, and I appreciate students who share my enthusiasm.
