Summer Orientation Welcomes 600 Freshmen
Student Orientation: Six orientation sessions
More than 600 freshmen and their families visited campus this summer during six orientation sessions hosted by the Dean of Students Office, which selects four Student Orientation Coordinators to plan and oversee the summer sessions. The SOCs design the orientation process to provide incoming students with the tools and know—how needed to guarantee a smooth transition into college life.

From high school to college.
Student Orientation: Students learn more about their major
During Orientation, students learn more about their major — or sign up for fall workshops and classes to help select a major — meet with their academic advisors, and register for classes. They also become better acquainted with student-focused services such as Residence Life, Student Financial Services, and Academic Planning and Support. In addition, a separate concurrent Orientation is held for parents and families.

A head start on student life.
Student Orientation: 70 student organizations on campus
New students also meet in small groups facilitated by one of 12 Student Orientation Leaders to make sure they feel at home, talk about any concerns or fears, and get a head start on making friends. They also hear from other student leaders, learn about the more than 70 student organizations on campus, and take part in campus traditions like singing the alma mater.

Alumni talk about life after graduation.
But an equally important part of Orientation is learning how St. Edward's prepares students for life after graduation. This year, nearly 20 alumni shared their stories and answered questions during a panel session at each orientation session. Thanks to all the volunteers from a variety of majors and class years who helped with Orientation:

“I love talking with new students and parents about the wonderful experiences I had living on campus and getting involved in the St. Edward's community,” said first-time Orientation volunteer Rachel Tydlacka, '04, an English Writing and Rhetoric graduate who is currently a program manager for Best Buddies Texas. "Attending St. Edward's was the best decision I made as a young adult - the friends I've made and the job I have all stem from my experiences on the hilltop."
