  • Wedding Bells
Tied the knot at SEU?Did you get married in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel or elsewhere on the hilltop? The Office of Alumni and Parent Programs and St. Edward's University Magazine want to hear from you! E-mail a photograph (at least 300 dpi, please) and summary of the big day for possible publication in the magazine’s fall issue, or mail it to St. Edward's University Magazine, 3001 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX, 78704. Please indicate whether you would like your photo returned (if so, please provide your complete address).

  • Congratulations, Alumni!
Nearly 2,000 alumni contributed to The St. Edward’s Fund in the 2005 fiscal year — and your gifts are providing tangible benefits for students, faculty and staff. What’s more, this year’s 13 percent alumni giving rate includes more young alumni and first-time contributors than ever before. Why is this important? Because the percentage of alumni who give back to St. Edward’s — no matter how big or small the gift — is one of the factors that organizations like U.S. News & World Report use to calculate annual university rankings. And the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs is already gearing up to increase the giving rate for next year. How can you help? Listen for your phone to ring — current students will be calling you this fall as part of Phonathon 2005 to benefit The St. Edward’s Fund.

  • And the winners are…
The winners of the two prizes for the recent online alumni directory promotion are:

    • Christopher DeZevallos, '93, Houston—winner of the iPod® Mini
    • Jack Haden, hs '62, Pflugerville—winner of two round-trip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines

  • Root, Root, Root for the Home Team
More than 230 Central Texas alumni turned out to cheer on the Round Rock Express at the Fourth Annual Alumni Night at the Ballpark at The Dell Diamond in July. Alumni dined on hotdogs and hamburgers before the game, watched Logan Wood, '06, current student and Hilltopper baseball player, throw out the first pitch and Kippi Griffith, MBA '01, and Stephanie Elsea, MLA '05, compete in the dizzy bat race, and enjoyed fireworks afterward. Alumni across the country are also rooting for their home teams this summer. Dallas alumni gathered for a Frisco RoughRiders game in June, and Washington, D.C., alumni will cheer on the Washington Nationals on Sept. 10. Houston alumni will cheer on the Astros on Oct. 2.

  • Alumni Board Kicks Off 2005–2006 Year
St. Edward's University Kick Off 2005-2006The Alumni Association Board of Directors will kick off the 2005–2006 academic year when it meets on campus in October. Members will discuss alumni chapter development and how to increase alumni support for The St. Edward’s Fund through the fall Phonathon. Twenty alumni and two ex-officio members — a faculty representative and a Student Alumni Association representative — serve on the board, which meets twice a year and holds committee meetings via telephone between meetings. Find out how you can get involved with the alumni board and chapter leadership.

  • In Memoriam: Brother Edmund Hunt, CSC
Brother Edmund Hunt, CSC, who served as president of St. Edward's from 1946 to 1952, died Sunday, July 24, at Dujarié House in Notre Dame, Ind. He was 95. Born in Elwood, Ind., he lived as a Holy Cross Brother for 73 years. A 1935 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Brother Edmund received a PhD in Classical Languages at the University of Chicago in 1940 and later studied at the Sorbonne in Paris.

He taught at the University of Notre Dame, St. Edward's University and several Holy Cross high schools. He was the first Holy Cross Brother to serve as president of St. Edward's University and, among his contributions, led efforts to build the Alumni Memorial Gym and gained approval for the library, which was later built during the presidency of Brother Elmo Bransby, CSC.

Brother Edmund served the Congregation of Holy Cross at every level of engagement, including service to Notre Dame International School in Rome and Rancho San Antonio in Chatsworth, Calif. He also assisted with a rewriting of the Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

Visitation and a mass of Christian Burial took place July 28.
