Hilltopper Connections

Recent Events Draw Alumni from Coast to Coast

From Miami to Los Angeles and cities in between, St. Edward's University alumni groups have been busy connecting with their fellow Hilltoppers while having a blast at unique outings and events.

Fans of Willie Nelson Enjoy an Evening to Remember
Alumni in Los Angeles gathered for a Willie Nelson concert at the legendary Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 9. The group enjoyed a picnic, followed by some dancing under the stars as Nelson played a number of his hits. Adding to the excitement, Nelson played with both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and his Family Band. What's next for area alumni? Look for a group trip to see the Dodgers or Lakers in action.

Miami Chapter Keeping Busy
On Aug. 5, chapter volunteers enjoyed brunch at Perricone's Marketplace and Café as they made plans for upcoming chapter events. Keep an eye out for details as activities are finalized, such as performances at the new Carnival Center for the Performing Arts and a Florida Marlins game.

Corpus Christi Alumni Cheer on the Hooks
Alumni & Parent Night at the Ballpark in Corpus Christi was a hit for the alumni, parents, students and guests who came out to cheer on the Corpus Christi Hooks as they battled the Frisco RoughRiders at Whataburger Field on Aug. 24. "There was plenty of food to be had by all, and fans celebrated in traditional ballpark style as 'the wave’ spread throughout the stadium," notes Robyn Post, associate director of Alumni and Parent Programs.

Even though the Hooks lost the game, spirits remained high - especially when the park's message board announced that St. Edward's University alumni and parents were in attendance. Watch for details about an upcoming holiday community service event that will benefit the Arch National Respite Coalition, which serves abused children.

Local Gathering Unites Alumni Working at Dell, Inc.
This past September around 50 alumni, parents and students who work at computer giant Dell, Inc. gathered together at an event hosted by James M. Schneider, senior vice president and CFO of the company and father of St. Edward's University sophomore Bryan Schneider, '09. In addition to providing university alumni, parents and students who work at Dell the opportunity to meet one another, the event also allowed President George E. Martin a chance to share recent university success stories and upcoming goals while recognizing the important partnership that exists between St. Edward's and Dell, Inc.

BSS Bash Welcomes New Students
To help make new students feel right at home, the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences hosted a lunchtime Welcome Bash on Thursday,
Oct. 5. Approximately 35 students - both those coming to the program from Academic Planning and Support Services and those transferring to
St. Edward's - attended the gathering to learn more about possible internships and career opportunities. In addition, students had a chance to ask questions regarding the school's range of majors, from Criminology and Social Work to History and Latin American Studies.
