Job Description and Requirements

SI Leaders are employed by Academic Enrichment & Tutoring Services to plan and facilitate weekly study group sessions that are well-organized, effective and worthwhile for students. This position provides emerging student leaders the unique opportunity to assume an academic leadership role within the St. Edward’s community, collaborate with faculty on a regular basis, and gain professional experience in the field of higher education. 

Working in with a St. Edward’s faculty instructor, each SI Leader is assigned to one to two sections of a particular course and expected to offer Supplemental Instruction to students enrolled in this course on a weekly basis. SI Leaders work between seven to ten hours per week throughout the entirety of the academic semester fulfilling the following general responsibilities:

• Attend at least one class lecture per week for each section to which the SI Leader is assigned.


• Conduct two one-hour study/discussion group sessions per week.


• Hold one office hour per week.


• Dedicate two to three hours per week to planning and preparing well-organized and effective study/discussion group sessions.


• Meet at least twice per month with the cooperating faculty instructor to collaborate on planning and discuss strategies to improve the effectiveness of SI.


• Meet twice per month with the SI coordinator and your SI leadership peers for on-going training, leadership development, peer observation, and group discussion.


• Fulfill routine administrative responsibilities, including, but not limited to: marketing the SI program to students throughout the semester, collecting attendance during study group sessions, distributing surveys and evaluations to students, and maintaining open communication with the SI program coordinators.
