INFORMATION FOR PEER TUTORS

Job Description and Requirements

The tutoring position involves several different areas:

  1. Training. Tutors are required to attend trainings throughout the semester on various topics related to the position.

  2. Tutoring Sessions. Tutors must set aside a minimum of 5 hours per week for tutoring. These hours must fall into the hours that AETS is open. You also have the option of scheduling up to 1 hour per week in the resource center for drop-in tutoring.

  3. Meetings. Tutors are required to attend staff meetings. These meetings, held by the coordinator for AETS will cover job-related issues and professional development topics. Exceptions will be granted for medical emergencies and direct class conflicts (this does not include extra study sessions or studying on your own).

  4. Academics. Tutors are expected to be knowledgeable in the subject they are tutoring and prepared for tutoring sessions. Tutors must also maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA and any other GPA requirements designated by AETS for each specific subject area.

  5. Administrative Responsibilities. Tutors must complete paperwork and/or tasks in a timely manner, by designated deadlines. Paperwork/Tasks for this position include, but are not limited to payroll forms and timesheets, logs, requests and cancellations, evaluations, etc. Tutors are also expected to maintain communication with the coordinator of AETS and respond in a timely manner to emails, calls, or other methods of communication.

  6. Policy and Procedures. Tutors, as role models and employees, are expected to follow position, office, and university policies. These policies, elaborated upon in your manual, include confidentiality, academic integrity and honesty, the policy on sexual harassment and discrimination.
