Inside APSS

APSS Mission Statement

APSS enacts the university's wider mission of championing broad-based learning, developing independent, productive students and providing a welcoming, open environment.

Our goals are to assist students in making the transition to college, to help them acquire the skills and knowledge to be successful in school and beyond, and to provide an atmosphere of respect, excellence, and collegiality in which students may explore and develop their own unique potential.

In support of these goals, APSS offers academic and disability counseling, advising, tutoring, and opportunities in international education and educational enrichment.

Academic Enrichment and Tutoring…seeks to help students develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve both academic success and personal satisfaction. Students are encouraged to utilize the Tutoring Lab, Online Writing Lab, Supplemental Instruction, Peer Academic Coaching and our Conversational English Groups. We help students take control of their learning by assisting them with setting, clarifying, and achieving their academic goals; planning and organizing their work; and understanding course materials, professors’ expectations, and their academic progress.

The Academic Exploration Program
provides students with the resources necessary to make an educated choice for their major. Services offered include additional meetings with their academic counselor, career advising
appointments and special event
s.

The College Assistance Migrant Program
is a freshman level scholarship program designed to offer an educational opportunity to the sons and daughters of migrant and seasonal farmworkers.

The Office of International Education
advises international students on immigration concerns and students who wish to study abroad.

Student Disability Services
provides on-going support to students with learning, medical, and psychological disabilities to ensure a positive outcome of the St. Edward’s experience.
