Study Abroad Services

Congratulations! Your son or daughter is about to complete an abroad experience through St. Edward’s University.
The realities of a global workplace demand that students demonstrate their ability to function cross-culturally to be considered competitive in the job market. Most employers value study or work abroad experience because it shows flexibility and an ability to interact with many different types of people.
Studying abroad can help students gain increased maturity and independence, a more open mind, and a better understanding of our own and other cultures.
Each student is ultimately responsible for his or her experience abroad. A successful trip abroad will depend greatly on your student’s willingness to accept responsibility for his or her personal safety, completion of paperwork, financial matters, and other details of the trip. The Office of International Education is here to guide your son or daughter through the process. Your support throughout this process is extremely important as well.
Many families are concerned about the safety of their child while abroad. We discuss safety and health issues in depth with all students before they go abroad. Parents are welcome to attend pre-departure orientation with their student, and the Office of International Education is happy to provide copies of the Pre-Departure Orientation Handbook to parents, which contains helpful information about many different aspects of study abroad.
The advisors in the Office of International Education are happy to speak with you if you have concerns you would like to discuss about your student’s upcoming abroad experience.
