Amy Coulter joined St. Edward’s as assistant coach in 2001 and was named softball head coach one year later. In 2006 she led St. Edward’s to a 45–22 record and the school’s first-ever Heartland Conference Championship, as well as an NCAA Regional Tournament appearance. The 45 wins also set a school record. In 2007, the team again advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament and finished the season with a 43–18 record.
Coulter began her coaching career at Westlake High School in Austin, where she was head coach from 1997 to 2000. Her team won the co-district championship in 1998 and 1999 and obtained playoff births in 1998, 1999 and 2000. She left Westlake to become head coach at Duncanville High School in Dallas, where she earned a 19–17 record for the 2000 to 2001 season.
As a player, Coulter had been recruited to play third base for UT–Arlington where she was named the UTA Maverick newcomer of the year. After transferring to Texas A&M University to finish her softball career, Coulter played left field and was a designated hitter for the Aggies. She received all-academic honors for the 1992 to 1993 season.
Coulter received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1996 from Texas A&M and a master’s degree in Human Services with a concentration in Sports Management from
