Brian Young has made improvements every season to date as the head coach for men’s soccer. In 2004 — his first season with the Hilltoppers — the team produced a 4–12–2 record. He followed that with a 7–12–1 record in 2005. In 2006, the Hilltoppers had their best season in seven years, compiling an 8–6–3 record and a tie for second place in the Heartland Conference.

Young came to St. Edward’s University after spending six years as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Brown University in Providence, R.I. He helped the team win four Ivy League Championships (1997, 1998, 2000 and 2001) and make four NCAA Division I Tournament appearances (1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000). The squad advanced to the round of 16 in 1999 and to the final eight in 2000.

While at Brown, Young also coordinated the national and international recruitment of high school student-athletes. He assisted in coaching five all-Americans and 11 players who have been drafted in the annual Major League Soccer Superdraft or have signed league contracts (FC Dallas, LA Galaxy, Kansas City Wizards, Columbus Crew and New England Revolution). While he was at Brown, the Bears posted an overall record of 61–35–10 (.576) and an Ivy League record of 28–8–5 (.683).

Before working at Brown University, Young was the assistant coach at Bates College. His helped the team advance to the East College Athletic Conference Tournament and win the BBC title, a longtime rivalry among Bowdoin, Bates and Colby Colleges. He also co-founded the Bruno United Futbol Club, serving as technical director and head coach from 2002 to 2003.

Closer to home, Young has been involved with the Lake Travis Soccer Club in Austin. He was the club’s head coach and director of player development, leading his team (U14) to the 2003 state finals. Currently, he is the ’90 Boy’s head coach with the Olympic Development Program for South Texas Youth Soccer.

Young played collegiate soccer at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. In 1994, the team enjoyed its first-ever NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament appearance. He also earned All-North Atlantic Conference Tournament honors in 1993 and 1994. Following graduation, Young played professionally (1995–1997) with the Cape Cod Crusaders Soccer Club in the United States Interregional Soccer League. He holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and a USSF ‘A’ license.
