J.J. Riehl is the assistant coach for the women’s basketball team. No stranger to St. Edward’s, Riehl was once a standout guard/forward for the Hilltoppers.

Originally from Dripping Springs, Riehl was an all-state player from 1996 to 1998 for Dripping Springs High School. Her team reached the 3A State Tournament three times, earning two state runner-up titles and one state semifinalist title.

After high school, Riehl came to the hilltop and was a three-year starter and a two-year team captain. During her freshman year, the Hilltoppers played at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament. While at St. Edward’s, Riehl received such honors as second team all-conference in 1999–2000 and all-conference honorable mention in 2001–2002. She finished her Hilltopper basketball career on a high note by scoring her 1000th point in January of 2002.

She received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2002 and represented university Athletics as the 2001–2002 Student Athletic Advisory Committee president. She continued her education at St. Edward’s, earning a Master of Arts in Human Services with a Sports Management Concentration in 2004.
