Cross named Daktronics All-American

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - St. Edward's senior Drew Cross was named to the third team of the 2009 Daktronics All-America Team on Friday. The team was voted on by Sports Information Directors across the nation.

Cross, an Austin, Texas native, led the team in at-bats (222), hits (89), doubles (16), home runs (14), RBIs (75), and runs scored (57). He was also tops in the conference in home runs and RBI. In the St. Edward's record book, Cross set new single season records in at-bats, hits, RBI's and total bases.

"Drew had one of the best offensive seasons ever at St. Edward's," head coach Rob Penders said. The single season records he set were staggering and will be a challenge to break in the future. It is nice to see Drew get some of the recognition he deserves from the region and nation."

Earlier this month, Cross was named first-team Daktronics South Central Region and second team American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-South Central Region. He was also selected first-team all-Heartland Conference for the second-straight season.

The Hilltoppers ended its season with a 34-22 record overall and a 31-18 record in the Heartland Conference. St. Edward's finished fourth in the conference which ended their string of two-straight Heartland Conference titles.
