Cross named to all-region after record-breaking season

AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's senior Drew Cross was named to the first team of the 2009 Daktronics All-South Central Region Team last week. Cross was also named to the second team of the 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-south Central Region Team.

Cross, an Austin, Texas native, led the team in at-bats (222), hits (89), doubles (16), home runs (14), RBIs (75), and runs scored (57). He was also tops in the conference in home runs and RBI. In the St. Edward's record book, Cross set new single season records in at-bats, hits, RBI's and total bases.

"Drew had one of the best offensive seasons ever at St. Edward's," head coach Rob Penders said. "The single season records he set were staggering and will be a challenge to break in the future. It is nice to see Drew get the recognition that he deserves from the region."

Cross was also named first-team all-Heartland Conference for the second-straight season.

The Hilltoppers ended its season with a 34-22 record overall and a 31-18 record in the Heartland Conference. St. Edward's finished fourth in the conference which ended their string of two-straight Heartland Conference titles.
