Hilltoppers ranked 28th in Preseason Poll

AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's was ranked 28th in a national preseason NCAA Division II poll conducted by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

St. Edward's is coming off of a stellar 2007 campaign in which the team compiled a 43-15 record and won their first ever Heartland Conference Championship and advanced to the South Central Regional tournament for the first time in school history.  The Hilltoppers dropped the first two games of the tournament and ended, arguably their best season in school history.

The Hilltoppers return several key players including senior's Patrick Colgan, Bradley Goldsmith, and sophomore Dexter Moreno.  Colgan is coming off a breakout season where he was named first-team all-america after going 12-0 with a 1.97 earned-run average.  Goldsmith is also a key member of the defending conference champion Hilltoppers.  He led the team with 60 runs scored and 29 stolen bases and was named the Heartland Conference Player of the Year.  Moreno was named the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year after hitting .365 and driving in 44 runs.

St. Edward's will begin its season against #12 Ouachita Baptist on February 2nd at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
