Weinstein and Pierre named to All-Heartland Conference Team

DALLAS, Texas - Three members of the St. Edward's men's basketball team were selected to the All-Heartland Conference Team on Thursday.  Seniors Daniel Pierre and Shawn Weinstein were selected to the first team, while junior Taylor Mullenax was named honorable mention.  Head Coach Ryan Marks was named the Heartland Conference Coach of the Year for the third-consecutive season.

Pierre, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., was second on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) and led the Hilltoppers in rebounding at a 7.7 clip per contest.  He also led the Heartland Conference in shooting percentage (66.0 percent).  Pierre tallied six double-doubles on the season.

Weinstein, a Rancho Palos Verde, Calif. Native, led the Hilltoppers in scoring with 16.0 points per game.  He was tops on the team in three-point shooting by making 68 treys and connecting on 42.8 percent of his shots.  Weinstein also led the team in free throws making 75.7 percent (106-140) of his freebies.

Mullenax, a Beaumont, Texas native, was second on the team in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and third in scoring (10.7 ppg).  The forward really came on strong down the stretch, averaging 12.3 points per contest in his last 12 games.  Mulleanx also registered four double-doubles on the year.

Marks, who is in his fourth season with the team, led the Hilltoppers to their third-straight Heartland Conference regular-season title.  St. Edward's posted a 23-6 overall record to go along with a 9-1 conference record.  During the past three seasons, Marks has led St. Edward's to a 68-21 record.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday when they take on Northwest Missouri State in the first round of the NCAA South Central Regional.  Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at Wisdom Gymnasium in Stephenville, Texas.
