Fuentes qualifies for National Cross Country Meet
JOPLIN, Mo. - Junior David Fuentes continued his strong season with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Cross Country Championship Saturday afternoon at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Fuentes, a native of Boerne, Texas, was the top individual finisher with a time of 31:25. Fuentes has won two meets this season and finished third in another. Freshman Cody Beamon also competed in the meet, finishing 97th with a time of 35:17.
Abilene Christian's Serge Gasore won the individual title with a time of 30:28. His teammate, Julius Nyango finished in a close second with a time of 30:33.
Missouri Southern State, the host school, won the team title with a point total of 41 points. They knocked off defending regional champion and No. 1-ranked Abilene Christian, who totaled 55 points.
Fuentes will be back in action on Nov. 17th when he competes in the 2007 NCAA National Cross Country Meet to be held in Joplin, Mo., once again. The men's race will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will be a 10,000-meter race.
