2009 Hilltopper Men's Golf Fall Review

Collin Mayer

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's men's golf team finished off a successful fall season last week at the Rollins College Invitational.

St. Edward's appeared in four events and finished in the Top-3 in three of the four tournaments. The Hilltoppers lost in a team playoff in the first event of the season at The Territory Classic. They followed that up with a third-place finish at the MacDonald Cup, which was an event that was comprised of NCAA Division I teams. In the last event of the fall, St. Edward's finished as runner-up in an event that featured seven teams listed as Top-25 in the nation.

Individually, senior Collin Mayer and freshman Brad Lyle both carried a 72.1 scoring average. Mayer also broke the school record by shooting a 64 at the Rollins College Invitational. Senior Matthew Hatcher has a 72.5 scoring average. All three of these individuals have finished in the Top-10 in two tournaments.

The Hilltoppers have also been making a lot of birdies, which has seen their Birdiefest total rise at an alarming rate. So far, through four tournaments, St. Edward's has made 155 birdies.
