Hilltoppers tied for ninth after Day One of National Championship
HOUSTON, Texas - The 7th-ranked St. Edward's men's golf team shot a steady four-over par 284 to sit in a tie for ninth place after the opening round of the NCAA National Tournament.
St. Edward's (284) is 11 shots behind leader Clayton State. Clayton State (273) leads the tournament by shooting seven-under par as a team. Belmont Abbey (268) is in second place at two-under par, while University of Indianapolis (280) who shot even-par.
Junior Andrew Workman (70) shot even-par and is tied for 19th place. Senior Jeff Howard (71) and sophomore Matt Smith (71) finished round one tied for 28th place. Sophomore Matthew Hatcher (72) and Collin Mayer (72) are tied for 43rd place.
Florida Southern's JudeEstaquio (63) leads the tournament after shooting seven-under par. He is followed by Clayton State's Will Wilcox (66) and Grand Valley State's Josh Crier (66) who are tied for second at four-under par.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Wednesday with round two. They will begin their tee times at 12:47 p.m. with the last player to tee off at 1:25 p.m.
