Moore and Williams named Heartland Conference Players of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's juniors Matt Moore and Joeski Williams were both named Heartland Conference Players of the Week by the conference office. Moore was named defensive player of the week and Williams got the offensive nod.

Moore led St. Edward's to two shutouts on the week and helped the Hilltoppers keep first place in the Heartland Conference standings. In a 2-0 victory over Newman Friday, Moore tallied five saves against the Jets. He followed that up with one save in a 2-0 shutout of UT-Permian Basin on Sunday. He now has evened his record at 7-7-2 on the year and has seven shutouts.

Williams led St. Edward's to two victories on the week and helped the Hilltoppers keep first place in the Heartland Conference standings. In a 2-0 victory over Newman Friday, Williams totaled eight shots with three of them coming on goal. He scored his second goal of the season that afternoon against the Jets. He followed that up by scoring the game-winning goal on six shots versus UT-Permian Basin. The Hilltoppers just need either a win or a tie on Thursday in Laredo vs. TAMU-International to clinch their first Heartland Conference title since 2000.

The Hilltoppers will end the regular season with two road matches. They will take on TAMU-International on Friday at 8 p.m. in Laredo, and then cap off the season with a 1 p.m. matchup in San Antonio versus long-time rival St. Mary's. The Hilltoppers need to register just one tie in order to clinch the Heartland Conference title.
