St. Edward’s opens season with 2-1 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The St. Edward’s men’s soccer team opened its 2007 campaign with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo Thursday evening at the Northeastern State Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, Colorado State-Pueblo (0-1) opened the scoring in the 54th minute when Jonny Valenzuela scored on an assist from Wes Warmack.

St. Edward’s (1-0) was quick to strike back, answering later in the 54th minute with senior Noor Jehangir coming off of the bench to score with sophomore Beau Grantier assisting on the play.
In the 64th minute, junior Patrick Miller scored the game-winner from close range.

The Hilltoppers outshot the Thunderwolves, 17-11. Senior Chris Sanders registered six saves in the Hilltopper goal.

St. Edward’s will be back in action Saturday when they take on the Northeastern State. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at the NSU Soccer Complex.
