St. Edward's advances to championship at Heartland Conference Tournament

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's men's tennis team earned a rematch with Incarnate Word in the Heartland Conference Tournament.  The Hilltoppers defeated Dallas Baptist, 5-0, Friday afternoon in the semifinals at the Brother Emmet Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Courts.

The Hilltoppers swept all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  In singles play, senior Tommy Collins took care of Steven Tabrizi, 6-0, 6-0 at the number six position.  Sophomores Brett Powers and Bernard Lancaster added victories at the number two and three positions, respectively, to seal the match.  Powers downed Brett Stricker, 6-0, 6-1, while Lancaster bested Bronson Vaughan, 6-2, 6-1.

St. Edwards will take on Incarnate Word Saturday for the Heartland Conference Championship.  The rematch of last year's final, in which the Hilltoppers won, will begin at 10 a.m. at the South Austin Tennis Center.
