Ways for Boosters to Support Athletics

Here are three easy ways that boosters can support St. Edward’s University without violating any of the NCAA’s booster guidelines:

  1. Boosters may employ student-athletes during any period of the year. Please note that student-athletes may be compensated only for work actually performed and at a rate comparable with the going rate in that area for similar services. Furthermore, employers may not compensate student-athletes on the basis of their athletic reputation or fame. If you employ student-athletes, you will be asked to complete information regarding the employment arrangements.
  2. You may contact a prospect to discuss a summer job after the prospect has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend St. Edward’s. The prospective student-athlete may be contacted about employment after the completion of his or her senior year in high school, and any such contact must receive prior approval from Athletics. Remember that a booster may pay a prospect only for work actually performed and at a rate commensurate with the going rate in the area for similar services.
  3. A booster may provide a student-athlete or a team with an occasional home-cooked or catered meal at the booster’s home on infrequent and special occasions.Additionally, a booster may provide reasonable local transportation to student-athletes to attend the meal at the booster’s home. Contact the Athletics compliance office before providing a meal at home or transportation.
