Hilltoppers falter late, lose to TAMU-Kingsville, 59-54
AUSTIN, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville scored the final six points in its 59-54 defeat of St. Edward's Friday afternoon on the opening day of the SEU Christmas Classic at the Recreation and Convocation Center.
St. Edward's (4-6) held a 54-53 advantage with 1:59 left in the game, but couldn't hold the lead as Texas A&M-Kingsville's Ursula Hill nailed a three-pointer with 1:23 left and the Javelinas knocked down three free-throws in the final five seconds of the game to take the victory.
St. Edward's had two chances to knot the score, but only came up with a missed shot and a turnover.
Junior Sara Head led the Hilltoppers with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Junior Kelli Payton chipped in with 10 points, while senior Jasmine Parr added eight points and three assists.
LaKeisha Jones led Texas A&M-Kingsville with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Hill tallied 14 points and a game-high six assists.
Texas A&M-Kingsville (6-4) forced the Hilltoppers into 22 turnovers and hit five shots from behind the arc.
