St. Edward’s women’s basketball signs three

AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's women's basketball head coach Jennifer White is pleased to announce the signing of prep-standouts Kendra Field, Shanae Lowrance, and Maddie Wheeler as they all will join the 2010-11 Hilltopper recruiting class.

Field, a 5-9 combo guard/forward from Marble Falls, Texas, comes to the hilltop after playing the previous three seasons under head coach Jerry English at Faith Academy of Marble Falls.

While at Faith Academy of Marble Falls, Field was named first-team all-state, Texas Basketball Magazine All-State, and first-team all-Central Texas by the Austin American-Statesman her junior season after averaging 19.7 points per game and helping lead her team to the semifinals of the state tournament. She also was named first-team all-district and the district's Most Valuable Player her junior season. She was selected to five All-Tourney teams her junior season which included the State Tournament. Field was also selected first-team all-state her sophomore season and second-team all-state her freshman year. During her three years for the Lady Flames, she has helped compile a 94-18 record.

"Kendra is the type of player that can play inside and outside," White said. "She loves playing the game and is an absolute gym rat."

Lowrance, a 5-11 forward from Rockwall, Texas, comes to the hilltop after playing the previous three seasons at Rockwall Heath High School. Devin Gabbard is the head coach at Heath High School.

While at Rockwall Heath High School, Lowrance was named first-team all-district her freshman through junior seasons and the freshman of the year in the district. She was the top 4A rebounder in the DFW Area her freshman and sophomore seasons, along with being the second-leading scorer in her district during her junior season.

"Shanae is a versatile post player that can also shoot from outside," White said. "She is a real physical presence in the paint."

Wheeler, a 5-10 guard from Cedar Park, Texas, comes to the hilltop after playing the previous three seasons under head coach Mark Myers at Cedar Park High School.

While at Cedar Park High School, Wheeler was named first-team all-district, the district's most valuable player, first-team all-Central Texas, and honorable mention all-state her junior season after leading the Timberwolves to a 31-7 record and a spot in the regional quarterfinals. She was also named the Dazzling Dozen Most Valuable Player her junior year. This season she has been named TABC Preseason All-State.

"Maddie has excellent shooting range," White said. "She has great passing ability and can drive to the hole. She is a great all-around player that can play any of the guard positions."

"We really like the overall talent of this year's class," White said. "Our expectation is that they will have an immediate impact on our program."

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Friday when they host the 2009 St. Edward's Shootout. They will open up the tournament on Friday versus Abilene Christian. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Recreation and Convocation Center. They will also take on Angelo State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcasted live on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
