Hilltoppers compete at Incarnate Word Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The St. Edward’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed Saturday at the Incarnate Word Invitational.  The men’s team led by junior David Fuentes first-place finish captured sixth place, while the women’s team ended in eighth place.

Fuentes won his second-consecutive race, as he defeated the field of 75 by 19 seconds with a time of 25:31.  Freshmen Cody Beamon (28:04) and Alex Gay (28:13) finished 23rd and 25th respectively.  Senior Jason Alvarez (32:28) finished in 56th place while sophomore Jeff Thomas (33:29) finished 62nd.

Freshman Lara Abbott (20:13) led the women’s team to an eighth-place finish by placing 28th individually.  Sophomore Morgan Baima (21:09) finished 44th and senior Lauren Sparks (22:38) finished 57th.  Junior Kevyn Oakes (22:43) ended in 58th place, while junior Allisa Stanzi (24:01) finished 70th and senior Jane Rogers (24:12) finished 71st.

Both teams will be back in action Oct. 13th when they take part in the Texas Lutheran Cross Country Meet.  The women will begin at 9 a.m., while the men will start at 9:45 in Seguin, Texas.
