St. Edward's University

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The St. Edward’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed Friday afternoon in the Ricardo Romo Cross Country Classic at Brooks City-Base.

Junior David Fuentes bested the field by 18 seconds to take home first place honors.  Freshman Cody Beamon (16:28) came in 21st place, while freshman Alex Gay (16:43) finished in 26th place.  Senior Jason Alvarez (18:59) finished in 48th place and sophomore Jeff Thomas (19:07) finished right behind him in 49th place.  Sophomore Dan O’Dwyer (19:54) ended in 52nd place.

As a team, St. Edward’s finished in third place out of five teams with a score of 77.

The women’s squad ended the day with a fifth-place finish.

Leading the way for the Hilltoppers were freshman Lara Abbott (21:18) who finished in 18th place, while sophomore Morgan Baima (21:42) finished 26th place.  Senior Lauren Sparks (22:36) finished in 30th place, and junior Allisa Stanzl (24:14) ended in 38th place.  Junior Kevyn Oakes (24:27) finished in 39th place.  Freshman Christina Arce (25:17) ended in a 41st-place finish.  Senior Jane Rogers (25:21) finished 42nd, and junior Reva Grimball finished in 43rd.

Both squads will be back in action Oct. 6th when they take part in the Incarnate Word Meet in San Antonio, Texas.
