2009 Hilltopper Women's Golf Review

Jacy Benites

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's women's golf team finished off a successful fall season at the Angelo State Make-up Tournament.

St. Edward's has finished in the top-3 as a team in all four tournaments this fall. They ended tied for second at the Bubba Watson Invitational, and followed that up with a second-place finish at the Cheddars/UCO Classic. The highlight of the fall came the following week at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate where the Hilltoppers took home first place honors and sophomore Kirby Baker was the medalist for the event. St. Edward's closed out the fall at the Angelo State Make-up Tournament where they finished in third place.

Freshman Jacy Benites has led the way for the Hilltoppers this fall as she has recorded a team-best 76.8 scoring average. She has also finished in the Top-10 in three of the four tournaments. Baker has also been key as she has tallied a 78.0 scoring average and has two top-10 finishes. Freshman Melisa Gonzalez and senior Emily Kvinta have also been solid, posting a 78.4 and 79.0 scoring average, respectively.

The Hilltoppers have also been making a lot of birdies, which has seen their Birdiefest total rise at an alarming rate. So far, through four tournaments, St. Edward's has made 62 birdies.
