Hilltoppers atop leaderboard at 2008 Broncho Masters Classic

EDMOND, Okla. - Kirby Baker's 73 gave her a share of the individual lead and led St. Edward's to the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the 2008 Broncho Masters Monday at windy Fairfax Golf Club.

The Hilltoppers shot an opening-round 308 at the par-72, 5,828-yard Fairfax Golf Club, getting three rounds in the 70s when the average score was 85.2.  Host Central Oklahoma is second in the 10-team field at 311, followed by Cameron (316) and St. Mary's (325).

Baker and UCO's Emily Leahey share the individual lead with 73s, two strokes ahead of Newman's Louise Sjoberg and Southwestern Oklahoma's Tasha Marshall.

Aside from Baker's stellar performance, several other Hilltoppers had a great day.  Freshman Dina O'Brien (39-36=75) is tied for 3rd place. Senior April Fields (42-37=79) is tied for 12th place, while Junior Emily Kvinta (43-38=81) is tied for 17th place.  Junior Erin Redfield (44-40=84) is tied for 29th place.  Freshman Sarah Shaikh (45-37=82) is tied for 24th place and sophomore Caitlin Locke (51-40=91) tied for 45th place.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. when the 2008 Broncho Master's Classic kicks off with a shotgun start at Fairfax Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.
