Hilltoppers in first after opening round of NCAA Division II West Regional
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The 13th-ranked St. Edward's women's golf team jumped out to a three-stroke lead in the 2008 NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament Monday afternoon at The Legacy Golf Club.
St. Edward's (312) has a three-shot advantage over Northeastern State (315) and a six-shot lead over Tarleton State (318).
Senior Allison Kinser (76) leads the Hilltoppers, finishing the first round tied for sixth place, while sophomore Jacqueline Struck (78) is tied for 10th place. Junior April Fields (79) and freshman Alex Smith (79) are both tied for 14th place and senior Kelly Rigsby (82) is tied for 18th place.
The three-day event will continue Tuesday when the field competes in the second round of the tournament at The Legacy Golf Club. The top two teams, along with the top two individuals will advance to Houston, Texas for the National Tournament.
