Three Hilltopper golfers named NGCA All-American Scholars
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - St. Edward's women's golf student-athletes, April Fields, Emily Kvinta, and Kirby Baker were named 2008-2009 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars. This is the first year for all three student-athletes to capture this award.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) OR 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
Fields, a senior from Austin, Texas, appeared in nine tournaments, consisting of 20 rounds during the 2008-09 season and posted an 82.40 scoring average. She had a 3.71 grade-point average this year.
Baker, a freshman from Baton Rouge, La. appeared in 12 tournaments that consisted of 26 rounds and registered a 78.58 scoring average. She had a 3.90 grade-point average this year. Baker was the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year.
Kvinta, a junior from Yoakum, Texas, appeared in 12 tournaments with 26 rounds and tallied a 76.88 scoring average. She had a 4.0 grade-point average this year. Kvinta was the Heartland Conference Player of the Year and was named second-team all-america
The Hilltoppers won the Heartland Conference title for the third-straight season and ended up sixth at the NCAA Division II West Regional.
