Abbott Named Conference Player of the Week as Hilltoppers Still No. 1 in South Central Region
AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's senior forward Kim Abbott was named Defensive Player of the Week in the Heartland Conference for her contributions to the Hilltoppers women's soccer team this past week of play. This is the fourth Player of the Week Award she has received this season.
Abbott led the Hilltoppers in scoring this past week with a dominating offensive performance in the St. Edward's matches against St. Mary's 4-0, and a valiant effort in the double-overtime loss to Newman 0-1. In the match against St. Mary's Abbott scored early in the match and converted two penalty kicks to lead the Hilltoppers past the Rattlers and her first hat-trick of the season. In the match against Newman, Abbott fired 10 shots for the Hilltoppers to help keep the pressure on the Jets.
Despite a 1-0 loss to Newman, St. Edward's held on to the top spot in the NCAA DII South Central Regional Ranking. They are followed by West Texas A&M, Truman State, and Incarnate Word. The top six will advance to this years South Central Regional.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action as they travel to take on #15 Incarnate Word. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
