Gascoyne named Heartland Conference Women of the Year
DALLAS, Texas - St. Edward's women's soccer standout Kristen Gascoyne was named Heartland Conference Women of the Year by the league office.
The Woman of the Year honor is awarded to the female athlete from a member school who exemplifies success on the field, success in the classroom and a presence in the community during their career.
Gascoyne, a native of Kingwood, Texas, was named to the all-Heartland Conference team in some form all four seasons. She was also named Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year in 2004 and Heartland Conference Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Gascoyne was named first-team all-region in 2006 and 2007, along with a third-team all-america selection her junior season.
The four-year starter compiled 38 goals and nine assists during her time at St. Edward's. She also scored an amazing 20 game-winning goals and helped the Hilltoppers to two-straight conference titles in 2006 and 2007.
Gascoyne compiled a 3.55 grade-point average as an education major at St. Edward's. She was named second-team academic all-district her sophomore season and to either the Heartland Conference Commissioner's or President's Honor Roll every semester while on the Hilltop.
The forward was also heavily involved in the Austin community, volunteering in the M&M Mentor Program, Hispanic Mother and Daughter Program, Community New Start Mentors, Copperfield Super Bowl Math Night. She was also involved in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Gilbert's Gazelles Run and Safe Place Walk.
This season Gascoyne helped lead St. Edward's to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and 17 victories for the second-straight season.
