Hilltoppers Bounce Back, Shutout A&M International, 3-0

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's women's soccer team bounced back from a difficult loss to Incarnate Word by defeating A&M International, 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.

St. Edward's (14-3-1, 9-2 HC) struck early in the 10th minute with a goal by junior Janae Averett, off of an assist by sophomore Kelly Servage. The Hilltoppers registered 14 more shots after the first goal but could not find the back of the net in the first half.

A&M International's (0-18-1, 0-11 HC) goalkeeper Mary Jo Hall found herself saving a penalty kick in the second half though senior Kim Abbott was there to rebound the ball and extend the HilltopperĀ  lead in the 60th minute. In the 82nd minute senior Stacey Copeland sealed the game by one-timing the ball to the back of the net.

The Hilltoppers outshot the Dustevils 32-1 as well as totaling eight corner-kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Tilton and junior Troi Jorgensen teamed up to post the shutout for the Hilltoppers.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday as they travel to take on St. Mary's for their final regular season match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
