St. Edward’s Softball picked for regional honor

AUSTIN, Texas - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that St. Edward's University Softball Head Coach Amy Coulter and her staff were named NCAA Division II South Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

St. Edward's (53-17) won its first-ever NCAA Regional title and advanced to the NCAA Division II College World Series for the first time, where they finished tied for third.

"I am so proud of the team and how they bounced back from some adversity early in the year and some key losses that only made them stronger," Coulter said. "It was so much fun watching them compete at the elite level against the best softball players in the country."

Coulter who has been the Hilltopper head coach for six seasons has compiled a 223-144 record for a .608 winning percentage. She has led has led her team to the postseason the last three seasons.

"It is an honor to receive this award," Coulter said. "Winning builds pride and this year's team worked very hard to gain national prominence for themselves, the softball program and the university. This award is a direct reflection of our student-athlete's dedication and commitment to being the best everyday."

Assistant Coach Lindsay Gardner, who shares the award, has been with the team the last two seasons and has helped the squad to an amazing 96-35 overall record during that span.

St. Edward's was one of eight coaching staffs around the nation to gain this honor.
