Hilltoppers roll into Friday championship by defeating Central Oklahoma, 5-1

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The 21st-ranked St. Edward's women's tennis team took a commanding 5-1 victory over #28 Central Oklahoma in the NCAA South Central Regional Semifinals Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

St. Edward's (17-6) got things started in the right direction by taking two convincing victories at the number one and two positions. Senior Regina DelBosque and freshman Audrey Tompkins proved that there #15 national ranking was no fluke as they turned back Audrey Donavan and Lacy Caldwell, 8-0, at number one singles. Junior Liz Jacobi and freshman Mary Bain teamed up to take down Julia Shviadok and Elizabeta Abramovic, 8-1, at the number two position. The Hilltoppers did drop the number three doubles match to the Bronchos.

In singles play, Bain was on fire as she blasted Julie Vo, 6-0, 6-1 at the number three position. Freshman Heather Brein made quick work of Caldwell, 6-2, 6-0 at the number five position. Freshman Alex Henry clicnhed the match for the Hilltoppers as she defeated Amy Cabato, 6-2, 6-4 at the number six position.

The Hilltoppers will face #14 Northeastern State on Friday in the South Central Region 2 Championship. First serve is set for 10 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The winner will advance to the Sweet Sixteen National Championships in Orlando, Fla. next week.
