Brenda Niemeyer begins her third season as head coach of the St. Edward’s women’s tennis team. She guided the Hilltoppers to a second place finish in the Heartland Conference in each of her first two seasons. While on the hilltop, Niemeyer has coached eight players to the All-Heartland Conference team and one Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year. She wasrecognized for her success when she was named ITA Regional Coach of the Year in 2011.
Niemeyer ame to St. Edward's after spending three seasons as head professional for the Northside Independent School District and the Annemarie Tennis Center in San Antonio. Prior to that, she was the head coach at UT–San Antonio from 1999 until 2006. While at UTSA, Niemeyer posted a career record of 91-60. She led the Roadrunners to the Southland Conference Tournament Championship and the first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2002, as well as a Southern Conference championship in 2003. In her seven seasons at UT-San Antonio, Niemeyer produced 43 all-conference performers and was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year as well as ITA Regional Coach of the Year in 2003, when she lead the Roadrunners to a 21-4 record.
Niemeyer is very active in the community, having served on numerous boards and committees. She is currently a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, United States Tennis Association, Texas Tennis Association, and the San Antonio Tennis Association (SATA). She has been recognized for her work by receiving the SATA Community Service Award, the Northside School District Community Service Award and the Special Olympics Award for Outstanding Work.
Niemeyer has been active in playing tennis since high school. Her playing career includes a junior college national championship, a consistent top-3 ranking in Texas women's singles and doubles, and a national championship in in the 30s national doubles.
Niemeyer received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from UT–San Antonio in 1985.
