Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)
UT is accepting applications for our summer internship program for undergraduates who are interested in research and graduate school in psychology. Underrepresented students are strongly encouraged to apply. The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) is a perfect opportunity for students to receive hands-on training that will make students more competitive for top doctoral training programs.
The SURE internship provides: 1) $2500 stipend, including room and board, for 2 months. 2) Hands-on research experience. 3) Seminars designed to give our students an edge in applying to graduate school. 4) Individual mentoring by graduate students.
The deadline is March 15, 2009. For more information and to apply, go to: http://homepage.psy.utexas.edu/homepage/admin/sure/program.html

Conference for Research and Creative Arts
The 15th Annual Student Conference for Research and Creative Arts will be at UHCL on April 22-23, 2009. The call for papers is attached.
Today’s students will be making presentations for the rest of their careers. This gives them a chance to get experience in a highly supportive environment. Of course, participation is also good for the student’s record. Please keep the following in mind:
- The application fee will be a flat $20, up to 4 authors and $5 for each additional author.
- Faculty co-authorship will be allowed. However, the paper or poster must be presented by students. A student should be listed as first author.
- In addition to empirical research studies, expository reviews are also welcome. For example, if a student has written an outstanding term paper, it can readily be turned into a presentation.
- Creative works are particularly welcome: poems, short stories, visual art etc
- There will be an evening session, to accommodate those who are tied up during the day.
- Constructive written feedback is provided by faculty/professionals serving as evaluators.
- Special commendations will be awarded the top 25-30% of presentations (great for the student’s resume).
Faculty members are encouraged to organize symposia consisting of student papers on related topics. (Please contact Michael Hunt by email or 281-283-3375 soon if you are interested).
