Social Work Program Mission Statement
The Social Work Program at St. Edward's University is dedicated to providing baccalaureate social work education to culturally diverse students of all ages. In keeping with the Mission Statement of St. Edward's University, the program promotes a strong sense of community, commitment to the pursuit of a more just world, belief in the dignity of the human person, and understanding of and appreciation for human diversity. Accreditation by the Council on Social Work recognizes the program's achievement of professional standards. The curriculum integrates a broad liberal arts education, support courses in the behavioral and social sciences, and professional preparation for generalist social work practice. The program provides a supportive educational environment which encourages commitment to continuing professional growth and lifelong learning. Through academic and experiential learning in the classroom and in the community, students acquire the knowledge, values, and skills of the social work profession. Graduates are well prepared to enter the community as competent social work practitioners, to confront institutionalized forms of oppression, and to advance the achievement of social work and economic justice. |
