MBA in Digital Media Management
Prepare for an Exciting Industry

We recognize that a central trend in the information sector is the merging of media, communication and computers, especially in the entertainment industry. The information sector, which encompasses media, computer systems, telecommunications, research and development, and advertising, accounts for more than one-third of the American GDP. Almost one-half of all new capital investment in the U.S. is devoted to information technology. These networks control and coordinate transactions at a rapid rate, thereby facilitating the globalization of business. What you'll learn.

You will develop highly marketable skills for the digital media industry, including:

  • How to research industry information. Imagine having to determine whether to invest in new equipment or technology for your company. Is it a growth area or is it a short unprofitable trend? In the MBA in Digital Media Management program, you'll learn how to locate and interpret industry data to help you make key business decisions.
  • How to conduct & use market research. When millions of dollars are at stake, you must make decisions based on solid, statistically valid research. How will you convince your clients or investors? At St. Edward's, you'll learn the art and science of market research for business applications.
  • How to analyze business plans and interpret financial statements. As the "brains" behind the production and creative teams for film, music or interactive media, you're going to need a high-level ability to develop, assess and understand business plans, cost-benefit analyses and financial reports. We'll teach you what you need to know to be confident among "the suits" - whether you're in front of the boardroom, bankers, clients or investors.
  • How to develop a comprehensive business analysis and business plan. To extend your experiential learning even further, you'll conduct a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis for a real-world multimedia company. You'll also expand your research skills and prepare a comprehensive business plan. Then, you'll present and defend your plan to St. Edward's faculty, and local financing professionals, executives and business leaders from the digital media industry.

Graduate school orientation
The MBA in Digital Media Management provides students with an interdisciplinary approach, bridging concepts from one discipline to another in a real-world environment. Students begin their MBA experience with a week long orientation that includes an assessment of each student’s business knowledge through the administration of the nationally recognized Undergraduate Business Major Field Test through ETS, the largest testing service in the world. This test will allow us to identify areas of weakness that can be addressed by the faculty through study sessions. The orientation will also include an emotional intelligence assessment, team-building exercises, and practical knowledge and skills sessions such as a calculator workshop.

This one-week orientation will ensure that students have the necessary knowledge to begin the Program and can access the student services provided by St. Edward’s University (SEU) and the School of Management and Business (SMB). Students begin developing skills in teamwork, emotional intelligence, and ethical decision making that will be threads throughout the curriculum. The one-week orientation begins with students analyzing their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. Team exercises will allow them to build relationships with the other members of their cohort and the faculty. A basic business knowledge assessment will be conducted followed by a series of workshops that include navigation of financial calculators and the APA style manual, effective preparation for case study courses, and an introduction to the digital media community in Austin.
