"Two
years ago, I was thinking a graduate degree would
facilitate my career goals when I chanced upon
the new MSOLE program. In December, I will graduate
in the programs first cohort of students.
The MSOLE
curriculum resonated with my interest in exploring
how work engages the whole person. What I didnt
anticipate was the personally transforming effect
of the program. Talented professors challenged
me to examine my unconscious assumptions. I was
inspired to articulate my values and vision through
books and conversations with fellow students on
such topics as servant leadership and courage
in ethics. My enhanced listening skills, critical
thinking techniques and appreciation of the importance
of diverse opinions positively affected all of
my relationships.
My expanded
understanding of leadership became invaluable
midway through the program when I took a position
with the Texas Association of School Boards consulting
with public school leaders to develop educational
policy. The global timeliness of the curriculum
was apparent this spring in Organizational Ethics
as the media broke corporate scandals spotlighting
voids in leadership and ethics. How fitting that
2002 is also the year St. Edwards will award
the first masters degrees to students with
a concentration in these skills." |
