The Master of Science in Project Management at St. Edward's University is founded on the Project Management Body of Knowledge® established by the Project Management Institute.

The Master of Science in Project Management program is divided into four phases. Phase I is a foundation course in statistics (BUSI 5304) that gives students the necessary statistics background to begin certain other courses in the program. Students must complete or be waived from BUSI 5304 before enrolling in Phase II and III courses that specify BUSI 5304 as a prerequisite. The Phase I requirement can be satisfied through provision of evidence of equivalent undergraduate course credit earned with a grade of C or higher. Once students enroll in the MSPM program, they may not take an undergraduate statistics course to meet the Phase I requirement.

Phase II (Core) courses constitute one-quarter of the course work beyond Phase I and provide the knowledge of general business principles as well as an introduction to project management. Phase II is made up of MBA courses that give the student the necessary knowledge base to address the more complex problems and theoretical constructs of the next phases of the program.

Phase III (Advanced) and Phase IV (Capstone) courses constitute three-quarters of the course work beyond Phase I and offer advanced coverage of all aspects of project management. Students combine required and elective courses in Phase III to broaden problem-solving skills and deepen knowledge in organizational systems that are necessary for sound project leadership. Phase IV brings the program together with a Capstone project utilizing skills students gained throughout their MSPM course work.
