The Conflict Resolution concentration is designed to provide opportunities for students to earn a Certificate in Mediation either with or without earning a MAHS degree. To earn the Certificate in Mediation, a student must successfully complete HSCR 6342 and successfully complete the hours required by the Texas Mediators Roundtable. Students who have successfully completed the Certificate in Mediation requirement are eligible to earn a Certificate in Family Mediation with the completion of an additional course, HSCR 6346, and successful completion of the hours required by the Texas Mediators Roundtable. HSCR 6342 is a prerequisite for HSCR 6346 and cannot be taken concurrently. Students who would like to earn an Advanced Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation are required to have successfully completed the concentration courses as prescribed below plus two additional conflict resolution elective courses.

MAHS Degree with a Concentration in Conflict Resolution
Students who satisfactorily complete the basic and advanced certificates with a GPA of 3.0 or above in addition to the MAHS core courses (18 hours) with a GPA of 3.0 or above will earn a MAHS degree with a concentration in Conflict Resolution.

Core Courses: (18 hours)

All degree-seeking MAHS students must successfully complete the following six core courses:
HSCO 6311 Planning, Programming, Budgeting: Review and Analysis
HSCO 6313 Organizational Management in Human Services
HSCO 6314 Leadership Development in Group Relations
HSCO 6315 Legal and Ethical Issues in Human Services
HSCO 6316 Methods of Research
HSCO 6317 Systemic Intervention

Basic Certificate in Mediation

A student may earn the Basic Certificate in Mediation by satisfactorily meeting the requirements of the Mediation course, HSCR 6342, with a grade of B or above and by successfully completing the hours required by the Texas Mediators Roundtable.

For the Basic Certificate in Mediation, the following course is required:
HSCR 6342 Mediation

Non-degree-seeking students also have the option of acquiring additional knowledge and skills by simultaneously enrolling in the following complementary course while completing their mediation certificate:
HSCR 6341 Introduction to Conflict Resolution

Certification in Family Mediation

A student who has earned the Basic Certificate in Mediation may earn the Certificate in Family Mediation by completing HSCR 6342 Mediation and HSCR 6346 Family Mediation with a GPA of 3.0 or above and no grade below a B and successfully completing all of the hours required by the Texas Mediators Roundtable.

For the Certificate in Family Mediation, the following course is required:
HSCR 6346 Family Mediation (Prerequisite: HSCR 6342 cannot be taken concurrently.)

Advanced Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation

A student may earn the Advanced Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation by completing the six courses (18 hours) indicated below with a GPA of 3.0 or above and no grade below a B.

Concentration: 12 hours

Required courses:
HSCR 6341 Introduction to Conflict Resolution
HSCR 6342 Mediation
HSCR 6345 Dispute Resolution Systems Design
HSCR 6347 Negotiation Theory and Practice

Elective Courses: 6 hours

Choice of two electives from the following offerings:
HSCR 6343 Conflict Resolution: Topics and Settings
HSCR 6344 Facilitation Skills
HSCR 6346 Family Mediation
HSCR 6348 Internship in Conflict Resolution
