The Admissions Process
Graduate and professional school admission will
involve a process that is more complex and time consuming than
that which you experienced in applying to undergraduate school.
It will vary from institution to institution, but could include
the following: a lengthy application, your undergraduate transcript,
entrance exam scores (GRE,GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, DAT), essay and writing
samples, recommendations, a resume or curriculum vitae, and an
interview. It is imperative that you be clear as to what is required
in your unique circumstances. The Career Planning Office, your
advisor, and the institutions are all possible sources of information
and advice.
Be sure to plan far in advance - your junior year is not too
soon - and become familiar with all the elements (deadlines, tests,
requirements, etc.) of applying to graduate or professional school.
In fact, as many post-baccalaureate programs will require specific
undergraduate course work, the planning starts even sooner.
Each of the major graduate and professional school entrance exams
have exceptionally well developed web sites with extensive information
about not only the tests themselves (registration, test preparation,
etc...), but also very valuable information about all aspects
of graduate or professional school study. Be sure to visit these
sites:
- GRE (Graduate
Record Exam)
- LSAT (Law School Admission
Test)
- MCAT
(Medical College Admission Test)
- GMAT (Graduate Management
Admission Test)
- DAT
(Dental Admission Test)
Registration materials for the various entrance exams are also
available in the Office of Career Planning
(Moody Hall #134)
