Holland Self-Directed Search
What is the Holland Self-Directed Search?
You can take the Holland Self-Directed Search online by clicking
on the letters below. There is a fee. You will be provided with
your interpretive report upon completion of the service. You may
also make an appointment with a career counselor in the Career Planning office
and make arrangements to take a printed version of the survey.

The Career Planning counselor will interview you and determine which tests
best meet your needs.
Your Holland code consists of three characters, drawn from the
six possible letters: R (realistic), I (investigative), A (artistic),
S (social), E (enterprising), C (conventional). The first letter
indicates your strongest preferences; the second, your next strongest;
and so on. It is useful to explore careers by using all three
character codes in every possible combination. This will provide
you a total of 9 possible three character codes for your career
search.
What do the letters mean?
R -- Realistic people who enjoy doing hands-on tasks
I -- Investigative people who like to research and problem-solve
A -- Artistic people who enjoy the arts: music, art, photography,
theater, etc.
S -- Social people who like helping other people
E -- Enterprising people who like to lead, manage, supervise
C -- Conventional people who like structure and organization
Your 3 letter code presents you with a combination of three of
the above areas. The major and/or career you select should match
these skills and interests.
