| Internship Programs of St. Edward's University |
In 1999, HEB Grocery Company
(Austin Region) partnered with St. Edward’s University
to support five internship opportunities in five different
nonprofit agencies. With its first semester a success, HEB
committed to funding this internship program indefinitely
for St. Edward's University students.
Students selected for this internship program earn $10
per hour for 10 hours a week. They also enhance their academic
learning, are engaged in community involvement and make
a contribution to the participating nonprofit agency.
Recognition:
The Council of Independent Colleges, a national association,
has recognized the HEB Community Internship Program as a
successful initiative that promotes student learning beyond
the campus and also serves community interests. This model
is highlighted in the association’s web-based Engaging
Communities and Campuses program.
