The HEB Community Internship Program at St. Edward's University
is again providing the opportunity for nonprofits to participate in this successful
and award-winning program. This unique program is designed to provide selected
Austin area non-profits agencies with a paid intern from St. Edward's University.
The program goal is for interns to provide meaningful assistance and, at the same
time, raise awareness of your services. In turn, the internship offers students
valuable learning experiences and allows them to make connections between his/her
field of study and real world professional situations.
Nonprofit agencies are requested
to submit proposals for participation in the HEB Community Internship Program.
Below are links to the application packet. If selected, the internship will occur
for the Fall 2005 semester (Monday, August 29th - Friday, December 9th,
2005).
Application procedure and timeline:
July/August:
Agencies are requested to submit the internship proposal and supporting
documents to David Uribe, Internship Coordinator. DEADLINE: Thursday,
August 11th, 2005 5PM. Incomplete
applications will not be considered
A review committee of SEU representatives will recommend five internship proposals
with HEB making the final decisions. Agencies will be notified via phone and email.
The Career Planning Office will then announce internship opportunities to students
via mass student email and an online database. Interested students are invited
to submit cover letters and resumes to the Career Planning Office for consideration
of the HEB sponsored internships.
The Career Planning Office will arrange pre-screening interviews with interested
students. Recommendations will be forwarded from the Career Planning Office to
the selected agency. The agency will then interview the intern candidate. The final
offering of the internship will come from the agency. Interns can begin their internship
as early as Monday, August 29, 2005.
December:
The internship concludes for the Fall 2005 semester.
HEB Sponsorship:
Selected agencies will receive a HEB check in the amount of $1,500 for the intern's wages. Interns work
approximately 10 hours a week -- or a total of 150 hours during the semester -- and are paid $10/hour
(minus the appropriate taxes withheld). The agency places interns on their payroll and pay accordingly.
