Supplemental Certification
The School of Education offers coursework to prepare certified teachers for two Texas teaching supplemental certificates: English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education. The requirements for these two certificates are as follows:
Bilingual Education (EC-6)
- A valid Texas teacher certificate. Provide St. Edward's University with a copy.
- Successful completion of the following undergraduate courses: (No more than six hours may be transfer work).
LING 3330 Introduction to English Linguistics 3 hrs LING 3339 Second Language Methodology 3 hrs EDUC 4340 Bilingual Elementary School Curriculum 3 hrs - Successful completion of the BTLPT exam in Spanish
- Successful completion of the bilingual licensure test.
- One Year served in an approved bilingual classroom on permit.
English as a Second Language (EC-12)
- A valid Texas teacher certificate. Provide St. Edward's University with a copy.
- Successful completion of the following undergraduate courses: (No more than six hours may be transfer work).
LING 3330 Introduction to English Linguistics 3 hrs LING 3339 Second Language Methodology 3 hrs - Successful completion of the ESL licensure test.
- Serve one year in an approved ESL or bilingual classroom on permit.
